I have been reading about hotel rooms in budget hotels in Hong Kong being so small and sometimes untidy. Can you recommend a hotel in Hong Kong for a budget-conscious tourist?

I just got back from HK and we stayed at the Marco Polo Prince hotel in kowloon if I’m correct. it’s not a 3 star hotel, it’s more like a 5 star and it was only about 1200 HKD a night (cheap considering we went during some soccer championship and some electronic convention, which they say is their busy season). one of the best places I’ve stayed. the rooms and bathroom we got were bigger than most of the hotels that i’ve stayed at here in the states.

THe BEST by far is YWCA hotel(Garden View International HOuse) at 3 Macdonnell Road – it’s located on the main Hong Kong Island, above the HK Park and located on the Peak – great location. Walkable to Central, Admiralty. And tons of public bus service everywhere. Plus tons of taxis.
It’s also VERY VERY safe. And a great running bath on Bowen Road just a little up the hill.
And it’s INEXPENSIVE and clean and convenient.

The Salisbury YMCA is a great choice – it’s in the middle of TST and walking distance to Victoria Harbour, and next to the world-famous Peninsula Hotel
